A 24-year-old Sumter man wanted on attempted murder and armed robbery charges has been named to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Most Wanted list.
Jawan Louis Artis is wanted by in connection with a Cherryvale Drive home invasion the day before Thanksgiving last year, in which the victim told investigators he was attacked by three men, who not only beat him but also stole his wallet, which held about $400, and his cell phone.
Artis is described as a black male standing 5 foot 7 inches and weighing approximately 132 pounds. He has short black hair, a small goatee, and a tattoo on the right side of his neck. He was last seen riding in a light blue van.
Captain Robert Burnish said the two other suspects in the incident – 23-year-old Dorian Treymaine Byrd and 23-year-old Howard Alexander Hodge, both of Sumter – have already been taken into custody and charged, but that Artis has eluded law enforcement.
