The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for a missing 80-year-old woman who could be missing for days, and are asking for the public’s help in locating the woman.
Barbara Nave of South Tondalcia Drive off of U.S. 521 South last contacted family members on Feb. 4, and went missing sometime between then and Monday night.
Nave stands 5 foot 4 inches tall, weighs 140 pounds, with gray hair and hazel eyes, and officers believe she might have left from her home on foot.
Deputy Ken Bell, public information office with the sheriff’s office, said officers were actively searching the area surrounding Nave’s home on South Tondalcia Drive both on foot and in vehicles Tuesday afternoon.
According to Bell, Nave’s last known communication was in a text message to a friend. “She had sent a message to a friend that there were some dogs bothering her dogs on the property, and she was going to check it out,” Bell said.
Bell said there does not seem to be any sign of foul play or burglary, as Nave’s purse and personal belongings were located in the home.
Anyone with any information into Nave’s whereabouts is asked to call the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office at (803) 436-2000.
