UPDATED (11:39 a.m., 1/27/17): Charges against a 17-year-old Rembert man have been made in Thursday night’s shooting.
UPDATED (10:05 a.m. 1/27/17): A 19-year-old Sumter man is dead and another man is being held for questioning by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office after a fatal shooting Thursday night at a residence in the Windsor City Mobile home Park.
Deputies received reports of a shooting in the 30 block of Somerset Drive around 6:50 p.m. Thursday. Upon arrival, they found the teen-aged victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
The victim, identified as 19-year-old Kyre Raquan Bethea, was transported by Sumter County Emergency Medical Services to Palmetto Health Tuomey in Sumter, where he was later pronounced dead. Bethea was a former student of Lakewood High School.
Minutes into their investigation, officers located the person of interest in the shooting at a nearby residence in the mobile home park. He was transported by investigators to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, where he remained under questioning as of late Thursday night.
Ken Bell, spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said Friday morning that the handgun involved in the shooting was recovered by officers at the scene. Earlier, Bell had also said there were multiple witnesses to the incident, and that investigators would be speaking with them throughout Thursday evening.
